Objectives
Breastfeeding has significant benefits for both mother and child, and breastfeeding initiation rates in the United States have been rising in recent years. However, many mothers do not achieve their breastfeeding goals, with only 25% breastfeeding exclusively at six months. Ob-gyns are well positioned to support their patients in meeting breastfeeding goals when they can identify opportunities to improve maternity care practices and community support. This module will educate the clinician on current data and trends around breastfeeding and provide practical strategies to support breastfeeding patients.
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to ...
- Identify ways to incorporate breastfeeding support into prenatal care
- Demonstrate how to implement breastfeeding-supportive maternity practices into the hospital and birth setting
- Explain how to provide breastfeeding-supportive care for lactating patients
Physicians can purchase and complete the eModule and receive CME credit once they achieve 80% or higher on the posttest.
