It’s typical for your first symptoms of perimenopause to be changes in menstrual bleeding. It’s also typical for hot flashes to come next, followed by or along with other symptoms.

As you get closer to your last period, all symptoms may be more obvious and bothersome. The most important thing is that you talk with your ob-gyn, especially about bleeding changes. Though these changes are often normal, your ob-gyn will want to be sure they aren’t a sign of a medical problem.
