Combating Sex Education Misinformation
Sex Education Should Be Based in Science, not Bias
Across the country, legislators are passing bills that would force students in public schools to watch videos that promote a particular political agenda as part of their sexual education curricula. These videos use emotionally charged language and medically inaccurate information to manipulate how children understand pregnancy.
Replacing accurate, age-appropriate sex education based on facts with ideological messaging and misinformation keeps children and young adults from making informed decisions about their bodies and their health throughout their lives. Children, adolescents, and young adults must have the knowledge they need to protect themselves and lead healthy, full lives. To do that, they need access to comprehensive, age-appropriate sexuality education that is medically accurate and based in science.
Sexuality education should teach about all aspects of human sexuality, such as anatomy, consent, sexual orientation, gender identity, and healthy sexual relationships. It must be comprehensive, inclusive, and based in science and evidence, not biased statements and misinformation that reinforce a political viewpoint.
