Advocacy Statement
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District II represents more than 4,000 board-certified ob-gyns, residents, medical students and other clinicians who deliver obstetric and gynecologic care in New York.
Access to equitable, comprehensive reproductive health care is central to the mission of ACOG and is the driving force to our policy work in New York and across the country. As we anticipate new challenges at the federal level, District II urges New York lawmakers to avail themselves of every opportunity to be a true access state. New York has already begun this effort with passage of Proposal 1, and its overwhelming support by New Yorkers should strengthen our resolve to act swiftly to strengthen protections for abortion access in New York. District II will, as always, provide the important scientific and evidence-based clinical perspective that is often lacking in discussions on abortion. We look forward to continued partnership and dialogue with the New York state legislature as we envision our state taking action to guard against any additional threats to those who seek or provide abortion care in our state.
