The Rise of Rough Sex and Sexual Choking/Strangulation

What Clinicians Must Know about Health, Communication, and Violence Prevention

About the Webinar

Over at least the past decade, rough sex behaviors have rapidly increased as part of younger adults’ sexual repertoires. These shifts have occurred in mainstream sexual culture, often apart from many of the principles and harm reduction practices commonly associated with BDSM and kink communities. This webinar will cover the findings from research conducted by Debby Herbenick, PhD, MPH, and her team on rough sex practices, with a focus on sexual choking or strangulation. The presentation will address issues such as prevalence, frequency, communication, consent, health implications, and violence prevention.

This webinar was presented by the District IX Patient Safety and Quality Improvement and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committees.
